Don Saville passed away in May of 2017 at age 81. He was a Korean War veteran and served as a Corpsman HM1 in the United States Navy on the medical ship USS Piedmont. He was loyal to family, friends and country. Don was a good cook with a fun spirit who gave everyone a nickname and loved to tease and poke fun. He had a special place in his heart for his grandsons. And his Baked Beans recipe is a keeper!

Don’s Baked Beans

1 large can Bush’s baked beans

2 cans drained black beans

1 to 1 ½ cups dark molasses

1 tablespoon dry mustard

1 finely chopped yellow onion

1 to 1 ½ cups brown sugar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

8 strips pre-cooked thick bacon, chopped up

Salt and pepper to taste

Combine together and cook in a slow cooker on low for 6 to 8 hours.
